LTSC Autumn Regatta 2007 - Report

The LTSC Regatta was held on 15 16 September 2007. 50 boats took to the water in four classes. Division was the fast boats from a Laser 4000 to an RS 200, Division 2 was the Lasers to the RS Feva.

Race 1 was started in a light westerly wind which varied considerably as the clouds passed. Chris Gowers and June Riley made the most of a good start in their RS 400 to take a good lead from Iain and Carol Calder in their Laser 4000. In Division 2 it was Brian Finnie in his Europe that won the race from Charles Morrish and Caroline Gold in their Enterprise. Emma Watson had a good lead in the Topper class to win from Gavin Logan, and Jo Foster won the Oppies with Issy Milford second.

It was all change in the second race, with the wind picking up to 15 knots at times, but still quite shifty. Division 1 saw a close start with the RS 400’s, Laser 4000 and Iso all having a close race. Another good tactical move by Gowers and Riley saw them break away from Ross Watson and Colin Mason in the battle of the 400’s and were only caught on the line by Team Calder in the Laser 4000 and Colin Scott and Graham Logan in the Iso, with the Iso getting second on handicap. In Division 2 it was the turn of the big boys in their Finns to dominate with Dave Harcourt winning from Cliff English and Ed Thornburn. In the Toppers it was the turn of Sammii Foster to win from Katie Milford and Ruth Thomson, and the Optimists saw Jamie Calder win from Jo Foster.

The fleet were all keen to make their way back to the clubhouse for some famous Tummel hospitality and to warm up!!

Sunday dawned windy, but by start time the wind had reduced and was looking like a nice westerly, however by the second lap it had decided to rain and die off completely. The battle of the RS 400’s continued with a close group at the windward mark, however normal service resumed with Gowers and Riley extending a good lead to the finish. Mark and Bec Barron followed with Watson and Mason third. In Division 2, Charles Morrish managed to split the Finns, with Ed Thornburn winning from Morrish and Gold and Harcourt third. Emma Watson won the Toppers from Connor Taylor and Ruth Thomson, with Jo Foster winning the Optimist from Jamie Calder.

Unfortunately the constant rain and lack of wind put paid to any more racing, so it was back for more cups of tea and then home!
